Our Inspiration
From Ancient Insights
to Modern Breakthrough
400 BCE – Hippocrates
Hippocrates recognized that breath odors could help diagnose diseases, introducing the first known use of odor in medicine.
900 CE – Avicenna
Avicenna built on this idea, linking specific breath odors to illnesses like liver disease in his medical writings.
1780 – Lavoisier
Antoine Lavoisier’s research on respiration revealed the connection between breath and the body’s chemical processes, paving the way for modern breath analysis.
1873 – Seegen
Joseph Seegen identified the sweet smell of acetone in the breath of diabetic patients, highlighting the diagnostic power of breath.
1971 – Pauling
Linus Pauling discovered over 200 VOCs in human breath, opening up the possibility of using these compounds as disease markers.
2001 – Breathprints
Studies found that specific patterns of VOCs in breath, or “breathprints,” could help detect diseases like cancer and diabetes.
2024-Kozhnosys
